I'm not sure if this is connected but don't know what else is happening.
The ISAserver firewall is running on a Windows 2003 server upgraded from
Windows 2000 SP4. I am losing the connection to the gateway after several
hours of operation. Have had to reboot it twice today to get internet
communications working again. Saturday installed all the critical updates
available for this server. Am also running McAfee Netshield with SDAT 4353
which is dated April 26. Any ideas? Thanks, charlie

Hi Charles,

Thanks for posting!

My name is Jeff and I understand your issue to be:
The Connection to the gateway is lost after several hours of operation.

Based on your description, I am not sure how the whole networking here
organized.

I understand it may be like below:

Internet - ISP - DSL modem/router - Win2k Server running ISA - hub - clients

I am afraid I am not sure what gateway here you refer to that lost
connection.

Since the ISA server is acting as a firewall, have you installed the
firewall client on the client systems?

Once the connection is lost, can you connect to the Internet on the Win2k
server?

At the same time, as the ISA server is involved, there are ISASERVER group
here at:
microsoft.public.isaserver

You may try to create a post there to see if there are more suggestions on
this issue.

Hope this helps.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further concerns or
questions regarding the issue.

That is correct for the network although i don't think there is an ISP
involved since my connection is straight to the internet. I provide my own
email and internal gateway. I have 6 ip addresses supplied by SBC.
66.136.154. 249-254. 66.136.154.254 is the gateway address between the
ISAserver and the internet.
I am afraid I am not sure what gateway here you refer to that lost
connection.
The gateway that i lose connection with is (and it was gone again this
morning) was the 66.136.154.253 address. It restores with a reboot of the
ISA server.
Since the ISA server is acting as a firewall, have you installed the
firewall client on the client systems?
Why would i even want the firewall client on the client systems?
Once the connection is lost, can you connect to the Internet on the Win2k
server?
No, cannot connect to the internet with the W2k3 server running ISA.
At the same time, as the ISA server is involved, there are ISASERVER group
here at:
microsoft.public.isaserver

I will add that group to this post and i hope i am not out of line in doing
so. I do agree it might be pertinent but posted here first because the SBC
technician i worked with indicated to me that others were having problems
with connections after the latest Windows Updates. I don't know that to be
true and was posting for any help in that regard.
Hope this helps.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further concerns or
questions regarding the issue.

I appreciate your help so far. I may end up with a co-incidental hardware
issue but at present i think i am dealing with something of a software
problem. I did upgrade McAfee yesterday and downloaded the latest Stinger
and ran it on the complete hard drive. I did find about 20 old bagle files
out in one of the directories but did not get any indications that the OS
was infected. Again, thanks, charlie

Hi Charles,

Thank you for your inline updates.

Based on my research, I suggest you may try the following approach:

1. Double confirm that 331062 is applied as it is needed for ISA2000
running on Windows Server 2003.

2. Stop ISA services on that Server to see if this issue occurs.

3. Check event log to see if there is anything related to this
disconnection.

At the same time, for ISA issues, please post to the microsoft.public.isa,
not the microsoft.public.isaserver group. Thanks!

Hope it helps!

Sorry for such a late response. I checked everything as you suggested.
Everything seems to be working ok now. Have not lost the connection in
about a week. I don't work from Friday through Monday so it is important
here that things work well when i am gone. I will try to remember your
advice about which board to post to. I have the ISAserver beta here but
have not had time to play with it yet. charlie
