I have been using FP2002 for a month or so now. I haven't had any problems
until just recently. I was updating some files on Friday and saved all the
information, but now when I go back and reopen the files, the content is
completely gone, only the shared borders are there?

anyone have this happen? any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

Thank you!

Do you remember if while doing the update, you had a
hiccup in your connection. One time it happened to me and
when I went to my website, it was blank. I had to repeat
the process and everything was put back. Also, you might
want to check how you are updating your site. Are you
using FTP or is the hosting site compatible with
FrontPage extensions. I find that with FrontPage
extensions, some time it gets a little screwy. Use FTP if
you can. Let me know if this helps.

I'm not even to the point of updating it on the site....the files aren't on
my harddrive to upload. They are just empty files with the shared borders
showing. Everytime I open a file, the content of the page
dissappears...it'll be fine, act like it is saving. I close the file, move
on to the next file. Then if I go back to change something else, everything
is gone...computers don't work that way, so I know it has to be something I'm
doing, but I've gone over all the steps and am doing eveyrthing the same as I
was before....it just makes no sense....

hmmm...apparently, if you close the page with the little 'x' in the right
hand corner, you lose the content, if you close from the file menu it seems
to keep the information. Anyone else find this to be true? What a PIA!

First, *don't* use FTP - unless of course your server does not have the FP extensions installed.

HOW are you working...are you talking about your local (on your hardrive) web? Or are you trying to work live...directly on the server.

It kinda sounds like you are working on your local machine's copy *without* having first created a Web.

Describe how you are working.

I *always* close pages with the "little x in the ... corner". If the page
isn't saved, I get nagged to save it.

If you are not getting the Save dialogue, a Detect and Repair ( Help->Detect
and Repair ) may be required, after trying the other remedies:

Delete all FrontPage temporary files
Find and delete all hidden, system *.web files (not those used by Xara, if
you use Xara)

I'm working on my local harddrive. I created a new web in frontpage, set up
my shared borders first, then went on to add content. If I leave the files
open, its all there, if I close the files and reopen, nothing remains but the
borders. Previously, I've uploaded and have my website active. But I have
been trying to do some updates, and since Friday, have not been able to
update, and have lost all of my files on my harddrive. I'm not working live,
I'm just working off my harddrive.

Then I tried to download the files from my website, to 'start over' and do
my updates again...same problem, I keep losing the information.

How are you downloading?

What's the URL for your site, so we can take a look.

In the mean time do what Ronx suggests...find & delete *.web files (except for any that relate to Xara) ... I wouldn't do a Detect & Repair just yet though..although it may be needed eventually.

I do get the save dialog...and trying to figure this out today, I found that
I was incorrect...saving/closing from the file menu isn't working either...

I deleted all the *.web files, and I thought that fixed it...but I'm still
back to losing all my work again...

I started using FP to have a backup copy of my website...I had less trouble
when I did changes live....I'm so frustrated with this....

Have you looked in HTML view to see if the code for the page is there -
there may be a problem with the code that prevents the page displaying
correctly in Normal and preview.

Yes, the HTML is empty...just the meta tags...
