Lose Internet connectivity after period of inaction

We have two XP SP2 computers connected to the internet through a cable modem
and router. We run everything 24/7, but often in the morning we find that
the computers no longer see the internet. Shutting down and restarting
everything fixes the problem. Why are we losing connectivity? Initially I
thought the router was flaky, but we're on our second router with the same
symptoms. We didn't always have this problem; only within the past few
months -- possibly when we installed SP2???

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks,

Steve K.

Make sure your computers do not have permission to shut down your ethernet
cards to save power. Some might go into powersave mode, but not wakeup again
when you come back to the computer. Look in the properties of the ethernet
cards under device manager.

This used to happen to me too. The only way I could connect again was to
unplug the cable modem and plug it back in. That would get me back online.
We never figured out why it was doing this. But I did notice that when I
clicked on the connection icon in the task bar that a huge number of packs
had been sent, way more than even possible. Tech support eventually decided
it must have been a virus. Hope this helps, although it didn't really help
me back then. Good luck.

check in a cmd (command) prompt window-type ipconfig/all-
check to see if your isp is renewing your ip in the
morning-if so, you may nee to upgrade firmware on your
router
