Loosing Internet Connection

Running XP Home.

The computer with problem is connected to an MS MN-800 wireless router via an eithernet cable. Connection will work fine for a few hours but the computer suddenly looses internet connection. Computers connected wirelessly are not affected. Repairing connection does not work. Changing users does not help. Cables have been checked and swapped with other computers which does not help. Computer must be restarted to restore connection then a few hours later the same thing happens.

The routers IP lease time is set for two weeks.

Any clues regarding what may be going on will be appreciated.

JJ,

What is "set for two weeks"? The router WAN address - or the DHCP server lease
on the router?

Is the router log enabled? Does it give any clue?

Check the Power options on the computer - is there an entry for the NIC?
Allowing the Power scheme to include turning off the NIC will cause this sort of
problem.

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

The router has a lease time setting for the IP address which can be set for a few hours or up to two weeks. The IP address is dynamic and is set by the broadband provider.

There are no options in control panel / power settings for the NIC card. I checked the network adapter settings in the device manager and the computer is not allowed to turn off the network adapter to save power.

When trying to repair the connection I get a DNS cache could not be purged error.
