windows defender says that one of the listings in my favorites is a threat.
at the bottom of the history page it has a "View more information about this
item online" link that apparently goes to http://www.microsoft.com/protect
which is not a valid microsoft page.

Can someone point me to the right pages? the threat name is
Win32/Adware.SideStep

thanks,
R

I can't help you on the invalid Microsoft page, but I do hope they implement
that feature some day.

Here's what I did find:

Seems to imply that you have some ad sponsored software on your system that
may require SideStep.

I'd would be very interested in the definitions version you have on your
system.
SideStep was added to the definitions on July 17, 2006
http://msmvps.com/blogs/siljaline/archive/2006/07/17/104971.aspx

and was removed August 24, 2006

http://msmvps.com/blogs/siljaline/archive/2006/08/24/109248.aspx
"Please note that we have removed Adware.SideStep from the definitions file
after re-evaluation."

If your definitions are current then they may have been added again.

I'm very sorry I omitted that the definitions in question are for Lavasoft's
AdAware.

mea culpa,
