I have been experimenting with four applications that will convert text
to a wav file.

1)Ultra Hal Text-to-Speech Reader: The free download. This has
converted about 30 minutes of text to a wav file. The quality is
acceptable but 30 minutes is not enough. It will convert in under 5
minutes.
2)Text Recorder: This will also convert much faster than reading the
text. I believe that the sound is somewhat choppy.
3)Speakonia: I feel that the quality is fine with this program however,
it does not convert as rapidly as the other programs.
4)TextSound: shareware: I don't believe that the quality is as good as
speakonia. TextSound will convert text to sound rapidly. I think the
quality is better than Text Recorder. This program has the ability to
convert batches of text files.

I am hoping to find more free ware applications that will convert text
to wav files.

Thank You

Just get your favourite text-to-speech convertor and use it in tandem with a
normal audio recorder program?

What about the other way around?

Are there any decent freeware programs which can take a WAV file
of some speech and convert that into text?

Yes, it's called speech recognition and it already exists. Probably not as
freeware though
