Looking for some free general-purpose CAD program

Hello.

Do you know any free general-purpose CAD program?
It must be able to open files from Autocad.

I don't want any "specialized" program (my area is electronics and already have
various programs for electronics CAD)

TurboCAD used to have a free 2D version, but the link has
expired and I can;t find mention of it on the website.

IntelliCAD opens DWG files, and they have a free version
that requires registration.

I used to use SnapGraphics (first link) years ago and if memory serves
me, it was a charting program, not a CAD program. Did I miss out on a
function that was hidden or something?

I dunno. The subcategory is Vector-Draw - CAD apps are there *and* other
vector based apps - is SnapGraphics vector based or does it belongs
somewhere else? If so, where? All help appreciated. :)

I have a copy of it floating around on an old floppy somewhere. But I
distinctly remember using it to make flow charts. It was an excellent
program and a real bargain (free), but I never used it to do CAD. I
do, though, believe that the output was vector.

Thanks for the info John. It appears to have been around for a while
(1994).
