Looking for Small Distro Linux Freeware.

Vijay

Initially, I was lead to believe that software application
isntallations can be a big hazzle. However, after downloading and
installing ABS yesterday (a spreadsheet program)
http://www.ping.be/bertin/abs.shtml , I feel that there are other good
similar software out there for Vector Linux 3.2. Some may even be for
PDA, Peanut Linux or other small distros but probably compatible with
Vector Linux 3.2

My environment is either ICEWM or XFCE. ICEWM being the preferred
choice. I CAN't Use programs meant for the KDE or GNOME desktop
environment as I don't have these. Moreover, these are too much to
download on a 56K modem.

I prefer programs that can be just downloaded and run or those that
are very easy to install and come with complete instructions. Also, I
prefer files that are not too big and are an easy download on a 56K
modem. (Even if they are text based it is OK)

I am looking for the following Freeware basic packages for Vector
Linux 3.2 (or anything that will work on Peanut Linux/PDA and is
compatible with vector):

a) Calendar/Organizer/Scheduler
b) Alarm Program
d) A PC PostItNotes Program
e) A PDF File reader
f) Usenet/Newsgroups Reader
g) Firewall

Please let me know where I can find them, the specific file name and
any other installation, usage tips.

I would prefer information on software where you or someone you know
has used. The reason being I went on a hunt on the net and GNU for
such software and was disappointed. Links don't exist for some, for
the others there are error messages at install. The links/contact
info. for support didn't work.

Please share here any other useful software that is suitable for
Vector Linux 3.2.

Thanks in advance.
