Dear All,

Me and a mate regularly transfer files between each other via MSN Messenger,
which is painfully slow at times.... I was wondering if there is any
software we can both run via TCP/IP over Broadband, and then just transfer
files. Basically we both run it, give ip's to each other, and were
connected, don't need nothing like screen viewing, or nothing fancy. I've
searched Google, and because it is such a generic search, I either get stuff
that is far too complicated, or doesn't offer direct connect.

Your help on this matter is greatly appreciated.

Thanks..
Paul.

You could do that securely using a Secure Shell (SSH) tunnel. Its quite easy
to setup... Use a strong password...

Paul,

I use a program call FTP Commander, which is free, as an FTP client.

Be aware that, to use it, one of your (both of you?) has to run an FTP server.
Unless you set that up properly, you could cause yourself a security risk. If
both of you have broadband, and Windows XP, you might consider setting up a VPN
between your computers. You can do a VPN without Windows XP, but the Windows XP
version is a bit easier to setup.

You might want to try Yahoo Messenger too, I use it for file transfers. YM can
get thru NAT routers better than MM for file transfers. UltraVNC is another
option that works well for me, and it's reverse server feature might be useful
for you.
