Actually these didn't work.
autofilter.on gives an "object doesn't support this property o
method"

and

activesheet.autofiltermode is seen as true whether or not it i
currently filtering...

any other ideas?

It is unclear who you are responding to, but if you are responding to me, I
used neither of those constructs. The code I posted will work.
