Looking for a media player

Hi!

I have some really really old tapes that I want to listen to again. I
am planning to plug the output of the taperecorder to my mic input of
my pc. This should give me a wav file.

At this point I want to use a media player which can help me clear some
of the background noise and may be clean up the sound a bit too. I
know I will not get crystal clear sound but anything would be better
than the way it sounds like now.

Also I want to see if I can find a media player in which I can change
the speed of the music to slow or fast if required.

It will probably take 2 different players to achieve this but what are
my best options.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Search for a program called Audacity and that might do the whole job for
you. It's not a player as such, but will still do the trick.

John.
