Looking for a good scanner

Currently, I am looking for a good, reliable, not-too-expensive ($300
- $500) scanner that can produce quality scans in a graphic design
environment. In my current job as a production artist for a greeting
card company, I use a Hewlett Packard ScanJet 6300 to scan original
artwork, including handwritten greetings that I export to CorelDRAW as
vector-based illustrations. I am hoping to find a scanner similar to
the 6300, but with many scanners to choose from, I am unclear in what
to buy. Any advice in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
