I'm sure he is talking about watching the device drivers load as the system
boots instead of the splash screen.

Yes you can do this in W2K.
I forget how though.
F12 comes to mind.

edit boot.ini .. it should look like this

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000
Professional" /fastdetect

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000
Professional" /fastdetect/SOS

I upgraded my HP Pavillion to windows 2000 from 98SE and it seems to take a
very long time to load past this screen. the "bar" at the bottom of the logo
screen gets to about the half way point and then the hard drive, etc stops
for a minute or two before continuing. The program is still running, since
the rotating/scrolling bar above is moving the entire time. I have two other
PC's using windows 2000 and they do not pause like this.

I use to have Nortons Antivirus installed, and I think it's hanging up
(maybe still running some kind of system check) at bootup. But it could be
something else.

I've used some public domain registry "cleanup" programs, but they have not
helped.

I will try the things suggested.

P.S. Somehow, I have two almost identical threads going.
