I would like to record radio shows (from web) and music to my pc. Any
freeware software to do that. Also, let me know if they are any good.
I heard that realplayer can do that, but I don't relly like
realplayer, because it loads on startup automatically. the only way to
take it off the startup list is to uninstall it. thanks.
Labicff,
Please make sure to read all discussions on this group within the last 6
months regarding Real Player, Real Alternative, and Media Player
Classic. I do recommend uninstalling Real Player if it's been installed
on your computer. Also, get rid of Quick Time and AOL, and any of their
associated auto-installs. It may take a great amount of work, like
registry editing, in order to completely pull these parasites from your
system. When I last removed Real from my system, the _tracked_
installation needed four passes by two separate removal utilities, plus
registry editing, to rid my setup of more than 5,000 changes that it had
made to my operating system.
Don't edit your registry without some knowledge of the process, and
always make a backup of the registry -- Microsoft's Regedit has no undo,
no "are you sure;" in fact, your changes no matter how damned, are saved
when you exit. It's incredibly inconsiderate and stupid, but what we've
come to know from MS. I prefer third-party tools for backup and editing.
I'm pretty sure that other people have posted tips elsewhere about how
to rid your system of these leaches.
Speaking of leaches: how did you manage to post from Yahoo without
Yahoo's attaching an ad for themselves to the end of your post? I'd like
to know so I can tell my friends who use Yahoo how to do it -- I'm sick
of reading their insideous ads -- especially their ads about avoiding spam!
Back on topic: you'll find that your problem can be solved pretty
nicely. You'll be able to hear Real streams without Real Player,
although saving to digital will require another freeware tool. I save
Real streams to analog tape and as straight audio to my MP3 player,
which converts it to MP3 internally. Note that Real streams often make
music sound lousy when compressed a lot; the format is adjustable by the
content provider. Although I feel that it's a very abusive company, I
also think that for the purpose, the technology is quite good for spoken
word programs.
