I use Word 2003, and I want to make one of those long strings of periods that
stretch across the page--the kind you'd see in a table of contents, only
without actually creating a table of contents. I can't remember what they're
called and I remember learning a shortcut for it, but I forgot it. Any help?

I think I just figured it out. It's called a "leader character" isn't it? I
set a new tab and then went into Format / Tabs and selected the "....."
leader for that new tab. It works just like I wanted it to. Sorry for the
inconvenience.
