I have a local network connecting a PC (with WXP Pro) and a Laptop (with WXP
Home)with a crossover cable (RJ45).
I was copying files to the laptop when appears the message that "the name of
the file or extension is too long" about a HTML file, and the copy process
stoped.
This situation ocurred several times and if in same cases changing the name
of the file solved the problem in others i couldn´t copy the files.

The name of the files don´t pass the limit of 256 characters, even if i
consider all the path extension to the file.

Anyone can tell me how to solve the problem?

I´ll apreciate any help!

Carlos

You might want to check to see if the computer names are of different
lengths as they are included in the path/file name length limit, I
believe.

Thanks David, but even though the path/file name length limit is less than
255 characters.
There is a limit of levels in the path besides the limit of counting the
number of characters?

The problem occurs on the same system between IDE HDD, SCSI HDD and IDE CD
Writer drivers. Howerver, the problem does not happen when copied to/from a
USB Memory stick.
