Long Delay Opening Web

Hi Listmembers,
I am running FP2002 (SP2)on an excellent server with FP2002 extensions and
on which I have a few webs installed.I connect up using a satellite
broadband connection.
I have a problem with one particular web which can take up to 8 mins to open
using this connection (!!!) and only about 1 min if I try it with a dialup
connection. Once connection is established with broadband all publishing,
editing etc is fine. Note that all other webs have no problem.

Why would a particular FP web take this long to load when the others don't?

Suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks

Lot's of reasons. People can only guess without a URL.

Darn! I just cut the tree down and I still have the problem !! :-)

If you guys have time, please read my question carefully. It applies only to
accessing the web with FP for editing. Users have no problem. Note as well
that that only one web is involved on the same server using the same
connections. Here is the URL:
http://www.rotary7080.guelph.on.ca/

Any other ideas?

Magus:
Is it taking a long time to establish a connection (i.e. bring up the
password prompt dialog box), or a long time to open the web once you've
entered the username and password? I just tried connecting to it in FP and
it connected immediately (on DSL).

Hi
I guess my user id and pw are saved so I am not seeing the dialogue. All I
see on the status bar at the bottom is "Opening web http://www etc .." It
then hangs there....
I will remove the automatic logon and see if and when the prompt comes up.
My guess is that the hanging occurs after entering the username and pw.

Try some cleanup
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
Usually in C:\WINDOWS\Temp and
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Local Settings\Temp
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
Usually in C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache

Kathleen (&Stefan),
The delay (about 8 mins)occurs between clicking on the URL and the
appearance of the password prompt dialog box
Once the userid and pw are entered, access is immediate.
I had also done the things Stefan suggests. A reminder is that this delay
happens only with the one web (URL given previously) and only with the
satellite broadband connection.
I appreciate the interest.
Magus

That sort of delay is usually DNS related
- may be the satellite link doesn't have a direct connection to the DNS server look ups, and is spending the time searching for the
DNS for it
If I try to Ping that site at http://www.rotary7080.guelph.on.ca/ I get a Can not find Host
If you know the numeric IP address try opening the site w/ that in FP
