Long Boot up

JS

You may be able to eliminate some unnecessary services

Services Startup Type Descriptions:
Disabled - This service will never start.
Manual - May be started when needed by an application or another service.
Automatic - Started when Windows boots.

For more info on what services are needed or can be stopped see:
http://www.beemerworld.com/tips/servicesxp.htm

Also try Autoruns from the MS Windows SysInternals site:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/Autoruns.mspx
This will show all apps/etc. that load/run when you first boot and
selectively allow you to stop any that you don't want.

Note: To get additional details on an item in the list you may need to
highlight the item (right click) and use the Google option to get the
details, especially useful for the more obscure items in the list.

Go to the MS site and search for the tools BootViz for XP and UPHclean.
BootViz for XP will tell you which startup is taking all the time, plus let
you Optimize the registry to streamline it. UPHclean will clean up the user
hives for you.

If neither of those help, come back; there are lots of tools around to sniff
that problem out.

Open each of the applications in the Notification area and find its option
to load at startup and turn that off.

Click start---run---type in MSCONFIG- go to startup tab and configure it

To see what is actually slowing down your boot up try BootLogXP:

Good luck

How do I fine the "notification" area?
Thanks.
DA

The Notification Area (otherwise known as the System Tray) is the little set
of icons on the right side of your task bar, right next to the date/time
information. You can right click them and get options for the programs they
represent.
Icons that show up there are put there by their programs. Go to their
programs and look for a way to nost show them in the system tray
(notification area).

Not likely to be the cause of a ten to fifteen minute long startup but it IS
a way to stop some, not all, things from loading at startup.

Have you tried the free BootViz and then UPHClean from Microsoft yet? You
should; they won't damage anything and might make a huge difference. All
suggestions assume you are malware free of course.

That doesn't look like anything but a rehash of BootViz, which is free to
boot. Just IMO.

30 day free trial, and the timing details can be quite informative.
