Ian

I have w2k server with sp4 installed. We have used
windows update to install latest patches etc.
The last update was seemed to install ok but after
restarting and logging onto the server the icons don't
come up. All i see is the background. I am able to logon
as different users on the server. I am not able to end
any process's. My computer stations are able to logon and
access shared drives from the server so able to run
programs and access the internet through the server.

What can i do or try.

Thanks in advance

disappears quickly and also the task manager closes back
to the standard background screen. So I am not able to
try your response. But thankyou. Can you think of
anything else?

Try one of these:

- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, select the Applications tab, then start
a new task from here.

- Boot your machine with your Win2000 CD, select Repair
when prompted, select Command Console when prompted,
then rename the file from here.

.
Was able to rename the shdocvw.dll but the server is
still having the same problem. The article 256194 also
tells me of other files e.g. browseui.dll but my system
doesn't hav any of those files installed in location
c:\winnt
Any other suggestions

Thanks

I have reached the bottom of my bag of tricks. You now
need to check the MS Knowledge Base yourself, or wait
for replies from other respondents.
