Logon issue

I just replaced NT4 with Server 2003. A new machine. It has been up and
running for about a week. Now I am having some logon issues. The XP Pro event
viewer and 2003 event viewer are listing failed logon attempts from multiple
machines. The trust relationship failed. Reestablish trust relationship. Any
ideas? Also when it does logon it takes a long time.

I'd bet that your old network did not run DNS, but your new one (if running
Active Directory) is, and your client PCs aren't properly configured. DNS
should be running on at least one DC and all clients should be using only
that DNS address for name resolution. If you're also running DHCP on the
new server that would be the easiest way to "push" the settings out to your
clients, by setting up the range options.

Hi Richard,

I am running static IP's on all machines. The network is behind a Nexland
firewall with cable Internet. The reason I am doing static IP's is that the
power goes out during winter storms quite often. When the power comes back on
the firewall had trouble with resetting itself. I got tired of running over
there to reset the firewall. The XP Pro machines are all pointing to a DNS
server at the local Cable Internet ISP. Mike

That's your problem. You cannot use external DNS to resolve names in Active
Directory. You need to set up your AD domain controller to run DNS, and to
resolve all "outside" name requests; then have all clients use the domain
DNS server to resolve all names. No ISP DNS can be involved at all.

Hi Richard,

I installed DNS. Logon is faster. I set the clients to go to 2003 for DNS
and they cannot connect to the Internet. How do I configure the DNS to access
to Internet also? Mike.
