I would like to turn OFF the password requirement when booting up my
computer, but in the "User Accounts" dialogue box, the checkbox "Require
users to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete" is grayed out (and checked).

This computer was set up in a domain; I used it in my former job, and the IT
person set it up to work on that company's network. I now use it for home
use, and I hate having to enter my password every time it goes into sleep or
hibernate mode.

The computer is a Compaq nx6110, running XP Pro.

Any suggestions?

The only way to do that would be to disjoin the computer from the
domain. To disjoin from the domain you need to know the local
Administrator password, you have to be able to logon to a local
administrator account. You can hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete twice at the logon
screen and see if you can log on as Administrator. After you remove the
machine from the domain you will only be able to log on with a local
administrator account. You will lose your domain user profile and you
will have to create a new account. Your files will still be in your old
user profile but all your settings will be lost, your desktop, email,
program settings, etc. will all be lost. You will have to create a new
user account for yourself. *BEFORE* you disjoin from the domain you can
use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to save some of your personal
settings and transfer them the the new user profile that you will have
to create for yourself.
