Logging onto network share

When I log onto a network share (NAS) that has password protected
sub-folders I must enter a username and password and then click OK.

For some reason I have to always click the OK button twice. The first time
entry is refused.

With XP I never had to enter a user name. It was filled in and grayed out.
(Sharename/subfoldername) So all I had to type was the password and click
OK.

With Vista I MUST enter a username. Apparently that user name can be
"Sharename/subfoldername" or my local computer name/subfoldername. But the
kicker is I am always refused (logon unsuccessful) the first time I click OK
but clicking OK a second time lets me in.

This is causing backup problems as Acronis True Image Home can not get in to
the backup location.
I dual boot XP/Vista and XP has no problems logging on.

Any ideals on this problem are appreciated.

Well I gave up and bought an external hard drive to connect directly to this
computer.
Like I said earlier. $100 here $100 there.
