logging into a domain

I have an issue for logging into domain and in need of expert advice.

I have a XP comp and whenever i log on to the domain in Windows server 2003,
it takes a while for the setting to apply. But when I log on other comp with
XP, it doesn't take that long load the setting. Any advice would be
appreciated.

it could be that you need to put an entry in the hosts file.

the file is found in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and you can open
iot in notepad...

put an entry in for the fully qualified servername along with it's IP
address eg:

the server is called server01 and the domain is domain.com and the ip
address is 192.168.1.10

in the hosts file put the following line:

192.168.1.10 server01.domain.com

then close and save it.

also try putting the server ip address in the wins setting on TCP/IP
settings.

Check the DNS settings on the slow box - the client's DNS should be looking
only at the AD DNS server for name resolution.
