I found a tower at a local tag sale and can't log on due to the fact that I
don't have the password for administrator. Went on the system and tried to
changing it using
"net user user_*/domain" and can't change password please help for the kids
home work.

Go out and buy a copy of XP and do a new installation...wiping the HD in the
process.
You have no idea what use the system was in before you bought it..or what
virus lurk on its HD.

Have you tried going to Safe Mode and just pressing Return for the
password prompt? Often there is none on the Admin account in Safe Mode;
it's a special Admin account.

I hope you got recovery CDs with it; else you don't have any programs at
all that are legal to run and many probably won't. If you bought it
with software, they have to give you CDs or a recovery method, by law,
to sell it.
