I turned on my laptop this morning and when I went to log on a message came
up that had something to do with "user environment" and logged me in under a
default. This has caused me to be unable to access my files, passwords,
websites etc. I have searched everywhere online for help and can't find
anything. Any suggestions

It would really help to know what the exact error message was, and if this
was XP Home or Pro.

If the user profile is corrupted, you may need to create a new account and
migrate your data to it. Some settings (email, for example) will have to
be redone, since you may not be able to get into the account to export them.

You may also need to take ownership of various folders:

If this is XP Pro, and if you turned encryption on, you need the backups you
made of the account certificates. Otherwise, encrypted data is
irretrievably gone. If it's XP Home, this can't apply.

Have you tried holding down F8 while you boot up and then booting into "Safe
Mode". Perhaps this will allow you to have access to your files and make
corrections to fix the problem.
