I have Windows Vista Business x32 and I am happy with it, sadly it is
FRUSTRATING trying to log on locally. I can't select the local computer but
I have to go and look at the computername and type it in one by one, etc.
Is there any way to be able to log on locally with Other User and then have
the local NON Domain option?
in XP (this computer) it is helpful, but I'd prefer to do so, as I might
need to log on and in this case, change the computername.

I agree it is a major pain but that's the way it is. According to Microsoft
it's by design. It was a bad design decision as far as I'm concerned. I was
told it was done that way for two reasons: security, and speed. For security
it could be controlled by a group policy that allowed or disallowed
displaying local and domain names. Same thing for speed. Apparently in large
networks with possibly slow links it may take a long time display a logon
screen as different domains are enumerated. In the few cases where this
happens they are already using group policy so I don't see the problem with
a group policy that allows/disallows the feature.
