How do I remove the Log In Screen when Windows XP Home Edition first starts?
There is only one account. When XP Home was first set up it did not stop at
this window but continued on to the desktop. I recently downloaded the
security updates and some other update files and now it waits at the Log In
Screen. I never setup a password so it does not ask for one but I must click
on the account name. Can someone guide me on removing this.

Thank you,
Dianne

Was this the update you are referring to?
The Welcome to Windows screen appears when you start Windows XP after you
install the .NET Framework 1.1

How to turn on automatic logon in Windows XP

Use the "control userpasswords2" method near the bottom of the KB article.

I did download and install the .NET Framework 1.1 update and noted after
that the log in screen appeared. I downloaded the patch for 1.1, installed
it and rebooted but still the log in screen appeared. What I finally
realized is that the article indicated that it makes a new "phantom" account
thereby forcing the log in screen. I used TweakUI to go in and not show the
"phantom" account and now the log in screen is gone.

Thanks for the information.
