Log In Pops Up for no reason

I'm considering using Outlook 2007 instead of Mail in Vista Home Premium.
When I bring up outlook, it gets the email and a screen comes up saying the
juck has been diverted - fine. Then a screen comes up asking for my log in
password. This is after it has logged in and has gotten the mail! Sometimes
the screen comes up more than once. When it does come up, the password box
has the * symbol and it is longer than my five letter password. How do I get
rid of this screen?

Set the mail poll interval to 10 minutes, or longer. Shorter is
considered abusive to the e-mail provider.

How many e-mail accounts are defined within Outlook?

The number of asterisks shown in the login dialog does NOT match the
number of actual characters in the password. This would be giving away
information on your password (about its length) which would abet a
hacker.
 
Sounds like you have a third party anti-spam program is interfering. Try
the options for that program to see if there is something that interfreres
with the login.
