log in passwords

Our backend data is on a server which requires the users (via their
workstations) to log in with a password to access the server.

Is there a way to have the workstation ask for this when the user
starts their computers?
the problem is that if the user is trying to access the back end (via
the front end application) and they have not previously entered their
passwords , then Access won't like the front end to the back end data.
so the only way i can get the users to log in is to direct them to the
back end data on the server (which i really don't want to do as this
shows them where the data is and they can now cut/paste / steal it
etc).

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

tks

This is a network security issue.  Contact your network admins to set it up
the right way.

This may seem like a stupid question but i seem to have exceeded my
ability when it comes to this stuff and i'm not sure how to approach
hiring someone to set up our network. Can you suggest where i can get
this sort of help (we're in the Toronto area).
regards,
Steve
