Clearing the history should clear the websites listing in the Index.dat. In some cases, deleting the Index.dat is necessary.

Hi Ramesh.
Thank you very much for your help. I have now cleared the auto-complete
entries.
But I was wondering, if you choose "delete cookies" or "clear" history, does
this remove the information from Index.dat?
The thing is, can I still find information of which websites I have been
visiting even if I have deleted the cookies and the things in "internet
options -> general "?

Hi Nima,
The visited web pages are stored in a file called INDEX.DAT. The
auto-complete search phrases are stored in the registry - Protected Storage
area. The auto-complete entries can be cleared using Internet Options,
Content Tab.
Index.dat can be erased using the method here:

Hello there.
Does Windows XP registers (in a log file somehow) what web pages I have
entered (not the "history" button in Explorer, but a txt file or
something. )?
And where does Windows XP keeps the information of what I have searched
on in for intstance google. When I just type an "a" in the search field, a
box
appears with old search words. Where are this information stored in XP??
Thank you for the help
Nima
