Lockups solved

I've been having lockups on my Asus P4P800 Deluxe based system half the time
when inserting DVDs or CDs. I thought that it might have been the 300W power
supply, since I have a lot of stuff running off it (4 hard drives, a DVD drive,
DVD burner, a couple of gig of memory, Ti4200 gfx card, capture card, etc), so
in with a 400W unit. Still got the lockups.

Must be a dud drive, thinks me. Removed the burner and DVD drive, chucked in
the old Ricoh CDRW and a Sony DVD drive from the other computer, both of which
work perfectly.

I get bloody lockups.

I put the DVD burner and the DVD drive in the other (Gigabyte 8IG 1000P based)
computer. They work perfectly.

Must be @#$%ing software, thinks me.

So, in with a fresh HD, the old HD in as slave so I could make sure I install
everything, and on I go with an arduous install job, I had to install one
thing, test for lockups, install the next thing, test again and so on.

Anyway, I finally tracked down the software that was causing the hassles.

EasyWrite Reader that comes on the Nero OEM CD that came with the DVD burner!!!

Funny thing is that I have that same program (same version, too) on the Gigabyte
based computer, and it works perfectly.

So, if anyone else has lockups, have a look for the EasyWrite Reader (it is just
a udf reader) and remove it!

Is one system XP based and the other Win98 based? I have read that the
built in burning software in XP can cause problems with 3rd party
burning software and needs to be disabled. This seems to only happen
with some systems and not other identical systems.....
