Locking one or two columns - is it possible

Is there a way to lock only a couple of columns, but allow users to
edit data in other columns?

When I 1. highlight the column, 2. choose format, cells, lock cells,
and then 3. Protect the sheet (checking "allow users to select locked
cells" and checking "allow users to select objects), I do not get the
result I want.

Instead of being able to edit SOME of the columns (i.e., the ones that
I tried to lock), the users are not able to edit ANY of the columns.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Mike,

Sounds like you've got it back the front.
All cells are locked by default.
You need to select the cells that the user can change
and unlock them.

Then when you protect the sheet
UNcheck "allow users to select locked cells"
