Can you lock an idividual cell or paragraph when using word?

Can you lock an idividual cell or paragraph when using word?

Only in Word 2003. There, you do it by locking the whole document and then
marking everything except the particular cell or paragraph as "editable by
everyone".

If you do this in Word 2003 and then open the file in any earlier version,
the whole document is locked.
