locker.exe problems

David

I just got a new computer with XP SP2 on it. At some point, when it's
booted, I started to see some flashes like windows opening and closing
very quickly, then a black screen saying my account or something
related has expired, and then a white screen with some IE-looking
error-related content. There's also a window saying that there's been
a problem with locker.exe and asking to report it to Microsoft.

I know this is fairly sketchy but it's what I have. Any ideas? Doing a
scan in safe mode turned up nothing.

HELP!

TIA,
David

You have a Delf-CTK Ransomware Trojan infection, my friend (cf.
http://msmvps.com/blogs/donna/archive/2008/01/04/ransomware-trojan-locks-up-infected-pcs.aspx).
It usually brings along several other nasty "friends" that requires the
assistance of an expert to remove.

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

My son just got a new PC laptop from Gateway and while powering it up,
got a BSOD. Had to reboot to get to Windows.
