I just installed Windows 2000 Pro (clean install) on a new
hard drive, after I install the drivers for a HSP56
micromodem and reboot the machine, it hangs at the
progress bar and will not continue. I have tried safe
mode, and it still hangs at the same point. Any ideas as
to what may be causing this and how to get by it and back
into windows to correct it?? I had to reinstall 3x
because of it!

Thx.

Mike

Try pressing spacebar at the first startup screen (black background with
progress bar at the bottom) if you get into that situation again. This will
restore the last good registry. The registry is saved with every good shut
down, so hopefully the backup is not affected. You may have to go into
recovery and get an older copy of the registry.

Since it sounds like you dumped 2000 anyway, you may check for newer driver
on the web or just buy another modem that hopefully has a better tested
driver. BTW, get service pack 4 and the blaster worm patch for 2000.

3x to 2000? WOW!
