Debbie

I'm currently locked out of my system - Windows XP .

I have disc from the local university installed by a
student who was using my computer last year. I do not
have a certain number (only have product key)so the
microsoft 800# tech support is unable to help me.

My screen will not move until I change my password - we
have no idea what the password is and now are confussed if
we are using the correct user id.

How can I get this system unlocked and working again? My
daughter has school work saved and is unable to get to it.

I tried f8; f10 and putting the disc back in and nothing
works.

Please provde step by step instructions and please
remember that I can not get to my control panel.

Thanks
Debbie

Hi Debbie,

Three solutions possible for this problem.
Solution 1:

Boot with your CDROM Windows XP, using the Console Mode" and rename the NTUser.dat file in the Documents and Settings Folder/username

Solution 2:

Take the Hard drive, hook it to another computer with XP, go to the Documents and Settings Folder/username
and rename the NTuser.dat file.

Solution 3:

Usually, the first time that XP boot, the Administrator account in the Safe Mode has no password.

Sincerely
