Locked out of computer

I have a basic problem.

The January edition of the British magazine Computer Advisor said

"To resolve the issue of having to log into your account at startup, click
Start, Run and enter 'control userpasswords2'. Clear the 'Users must enter a
username and password to use this computer" check box, and click ok. Then
enter the username and password for the account you want to log in to."

Well, I did all this on my other laptop computer so that there would be no
need to have to click on anything in order to open the computer.

Naturally it all went wrong. When I attempt to open the other computer, I am
locked out. I would be happy enough to open the CD tray and insert the Sony
Vaio Recovery Disk, but I can find no way even to open the tray.

I am locked out from my own computer for no good reason that I can see.

Naturally, any help anyone can give me will be most gratefully accepted.

But please note, the basic problem is I cannot open the cxomputer or its CD
tray in any way.

HELP!

Boot into safe mode and log in as the built-in administrator account. Does
this work? You can then do a system restore to see if you can reverse this
change.
Rather than the method you used, I'd recommend getting TweakUI from
Microsoft (part of the PowerToys for WinXP - free download) and use
autologon.

Man, was that good! I have had problems before but that was a real swift
solution. I will never forget F8 again! It worked immediately to enable me to
open the computer, apply System Restore and correct the problem. Now that is
satisfaction. Thank you so much.

Perform a "hard shutdown" by turning-off your
computer completely, via the power button,
then turn it back on.

You're most welcome; glad you were able to get it all fixed. :)
