Locked myself out of my computer

P

PeterM

It started out all nice. I made an account for my daughter and my grandson
on my Win XP Home computer. In user switching we had 3 nice log-ons Then I
decided to go into user accounts 2 and reset my password and I did it
exactly to the same password as I had it before, or left out maybe 2
letters. I tried them both, it didn't work. Worse yet, a reboot left me of
the user list. How did that happen. Now I left 2 users with restricted
log-ons and I can't get on. Is there a way I can help myself here. Many many
thanks for any help.............Opa Peter

Greetings.
While the computer is booting up and before it gets to the welcome screen
where all the users are listed to select from, press and hold the F5 button.
Then you should see the screen has a black background with white lettering.
One of those lines listed will show "Safe Mode". If not already selected,
select it by using the arrow keys on the keyboard then press the Enter
(Return) key. When the Windows is finished loading, the welcome screen
should show one or more user icons. Don't worry about the graphics looking
larger than normal. You can select the icon Administrator and get into the
user profiles to make changes to anyone's profile, including changing
passwords. When done, just reboot (restart) to the normal mode as usual.

Kevin

Simply log in using the built-in Administrator account (which
cannot be deleted) and modify the desired account(s). By design, the
only way to log into the Administrator account of WinXP Home is to
reboot into Safe Mode. For WinXP Pro, pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL twice at
the Welcome Screen will produce the standard login dialog box.

My advice is to put a password on the Administrator account. Don't
think for one second your grandson won't know how to access this
account, and if you leave the password blank, then your computer is
wide open for him to go in and do anything he wants!

I did put a password on it. I hope it was the password that I used when I
went into safe mode to log on. Is that what you mean?
