Lock ups

I keep lock ups with computer it will happen at random
with every program ran a virus check with Mc Afee ver 8
and it found nothing at all have done a sys restore but
still happening baring a format what else can I do

Alun,
How much RAM do you have? right-click 'My Computer' and then click
'Properties'. Do you leave the virus scanner enabled at all times?
