Lock up at boot up

Well, I've about had it with this problem and am ready to format and
start over. This is one last try for a easy fix.

My XP pro SP2 locks up frequently at boot up time right before my
taskbar icons become visible and before the system tray icons show up.
I see the taskbar turn it's highlighted color, and then the icons
never appear.

Does anyone know where in the boot sequence this is so maybe I can
look for an error? I've got a bootlog going, but honestly can't make
much out of it. If anyone has any ideas on where to look I would
appreciate it.

Does the problem occur in Safe Mode? If not, then you know that
something is starting with Windows that is failing. It could be a
driver or a program. Look in the Event Viewer to see if there are any
clues.
Start>Run>eventvwr.msc [enter]

If Event Viewer doesn't help you, do clean-boot troubleshooting:

Thanks for the links. I got fed up with it and did a re-install so
I'm back at square one.

Russ

Does "back at square one" mean that everything is well now or you are
still getting problems? If the former, congratulations and thanks for
letting us know. If the latter, you probably have hardware failure. If
you need more help, post back.
