Graham Prentice

I've got most of it locked down, but under 'View' 'Explorer Bar' are gaping
holes in security.
Any way to remove items from 'Explorer Bar'?
Don't want 'Folders', Tip of the Day'. etc.
Any ideas of how to remove these items using registry?
Setting up locked down environment.
WinXPe OS.

Thanks, Graham

Graham,

To remove the "Tip of the Day", try this:

Open Regedit and navigate to:

[HKCR\CLSID\{4D5C8C25-D075-11D0-B416-00C04FB90376}]

Backup the key to a REG file, and then delete the key.

Restart Windows.

Toolbarcop v3.2.1 lets you _view_ the standard explorer bars, and lets you _remove_ the 3rd party Explorer bars.

Ramesh,

Under the 'View' menu item, there is 'Toolbars', Status Bar, ExplorerBar,
Privacy Report, Encoding......
Is there any way to remove any of these?
I've loaded Toolbarcop and all that is enabled is:

&Address Toolbar \system32\browsui.dll Enabled Current User
&Links Toolbar \system32\shell32.dll Enabled Current User

I would like to have the links and address toolbar in IE6 but not access to
Explorer Bar - folders, etc.

Is this possible using Toolbarcop?

Graham,

First, see if you can accomplish what you want with Policy settings:
http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/442/
http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/1111/

If that does not help:

The standard items (Search bar, Favorites, History,. Folders) cannot be removed, AFAIK. But you can try (with caution) removing the Folder bar's CLSID from HKCR\CLSID\<GUID>. But the standard items can't be done using Toolbarcop, it only displays the info (Tools > Scan for Search bars):

*Again, try this only in a test system*

Explorer Bar
Vertical: Search Band
{30D02401-6A81-11D0-8274-00C04FD5AE38}
%SystemRoot%\system32\Browseui.dll

Ramesh,

Sorry, I tried deleting all those keys, but it didn't seem to affect the
explorer bar in ie6.
The list of 'lockable' items seems incomplete.
I can't understand why MS would have all the policies and restrictions in
place when it doesn't cover all the menu items.
Why prevent adding the folder item in toolbar when you can get to it under
'View' menu?
There seems to be many others like this.
You can remove the 'File' menu, disable the 'Help' menu, but "View", 'Edit'
they didn't touch!
Why restrict just some but not all? Frustrating when trying to lock this
down without 3rd party utils.

Any other ideas?

Thanks for your time,
Graham

Thanks, Ramesh.
I'm at about 95% of where I'd like to be on this one.
The machine is locked down fairly well that these extra menus left over are
just a bit of a nuisance.
The Toolbarcop did come in handy for one menu item. (took out MSN messenger
from menu)
Thanks again for your time.
