location of \Device\Scsi\ultra1 ? Getting error on out of data firmware on \Device\Scsi\ultra1

Sarah Clarke

Hi, I have XP Pro installed on my box. I get the following error:

"The driver has detected that device \Device\Scsi\ultra1 has old or
out-of-date firmware. Reduced performance may result."

I think i might be getting the above error due to an ATA100 drive connected
to an ATA133 connection.

Would someone direct me to where \Device\Scsi\ultra1 is located on my
motherboard ?

My motherboard is the GA-7VRXP. It has the normal IDE1/IDE2 alongside with
IDE3/IDE4 (RAID/ATA133). So is \Device\Scsi\ultra1 the primary drive on
IDE3? Does the numbering start at ultra0 or ultra1? Is there any information
on this on the web?

Thanks!

You do not have a scsi controller card? Perhaps an older scanner
connected via scsi? If not, check on your motherboard mftr.'s website
for information. You will need the actual name of the mftr., not the
model number as you have given. Numbering of drives *usually* starts at
0.

Hi, nope. I have 7 devices connected to the motherboard's IDE ports. No scsi
card or scsi discs or scsi controller card. I think the \Device\Scsi\ultra1
is referring to my ATA133 ide port. I'll have a look at the manufacturer
website. Thanks!

That is an error from the Ultra IDE expansion card.

It appears as a SCSI device to Windows.

I had contacted them a long time ago about that error,
they said they were working on it, but it was nothing to
worry about.

Thanks for the information, Kevin. I hope the OP comes back to see your
answer, but in any case I appreciate knowing the cause. Thanks for
taking the time to post this.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Good to know this is not an actual problem!
