Locating Non-Domain Machines

I support a network of over 2000 users both on site and off. We are
finishing up the testing phase of SP2 and would like to ensure that
the install goes as seamless as possible. The best way to do this is
to make sure that all of our XP machines are on the domain. For the
most part, the majority of the computers on the network are added to
the domain but we would like to scan to see what XP/2000 machines have
not been added. Does anyone know of a scanning program to do this?
Keep in mind that we also have 98 machines as well.

Thanks,
Jonas

You could ping every IP on your subnet, and if you get a reply, look up the
hostname and check that it's in AD. If it is, attempt to bind with domain
credentials, which will ensure that the trust relationship is intact.

Take a look at my findnbt tool on free win32 c++ tools page of www.joeware.net,
it was written for a similar purpose.

It will search whatever subnets you tell it to and it will output a report with
all of the NBT Name info for each of the machines.
