Hello,

did anyone experience crashes with locate32 from
http://locate32.webhop.org/ ? it's all beta.
On my 2 PCs, when i have search an item and done
something in the window (like in a browser, rightclick
etc, view properties..) then when i shutdown locate
it crashes.
IMO despite it is a great improvement from previous
locate port for win, it is just too instable.
So if it goes on i may prefer catfish, or even willbur
and you ?

....and, it's unkillable, after a crash. and it crashes
almost allways. A pity because on catfish we don't have
the context menu...

I've had no problems with the previous version, 2.99.5.1230, 23.1.2005 (Jan
23). It hasn't crashed on me yet.

Now downloading current version, 2.99.5.7100, 10.7.2005 (July 7).

Locate32 is a great tool. I just wish it added files to the database in
"real time" like Ava Find. Haven't tried Catfish.

As you say the good thing about Locate32 is that it gives you all the
right-click options for the files that are found.

Yes, Catfish also crashes, if i want so open somes
text files with double-click...same thing as with locate32,
it runs fine untile you do some work inside the gui,
right click, open a file... but i will try the new release
too.
locate32 with it's aptitude to look inside files is so powerfull
that a database tool is almost no more necessary, imho.

I found Locate32 very efficient at doing its scan.

Wilbur is far better but only finds raw text strings in the file
itself rather than interpreting the file (eg PDF or DOC).

Too many desktop search tools seem worryingly poor at allowing the
user to specify which drive/folder he wants to scan (Wilbur is an
exception).

This is a nice article: "Total Recall"

although I find their reccommended apps a bit heavy on the PC.
