Local Groups are Gone!

Mike

I have an XP SP2 machine that is joined to a domain. When I go to the
local users and group to add a domain account to the local administrators
group, there is no groups shown. It shows that the groups folder is empty.
There should be the built-in accounts here. Is this a display error, or is
there a way to unhide these groups.

Has anyone been playing around in your domain policies, perchance?

Log into the local machine instead of the domain and add the domain accounts
to the local groups. This is the inverse method and should get you around
any group policy that would prevent you from accessing local objects from the
other domain-tied profile.

Hello,

Thanks for posting!

I understand that the local group folder is empty in Windows XP that is a
member of a domain.

First I suggest you test the following to isolate the issue.

1. Run Lusrmgr.msc, what is the result? Can you see local group?

2. Login locally with local administrator, what is the result?

3. Disjoin the domain the rejoin the domain, what is the result?

I am using Win XP SP2 and in my Systems Tools under Computer Management,
there is no 'Local Users and Groups' entry. Also when I do a scan with
MS Baseline Security Analyser, i get a warning that there are more than
two Administrators. There should be only two me and my son.
There is a third Administrator with the user name Administrator but I
have no idea who this is for. it does not show up on the user list when
I go to Control Panel ---User Accounts. What is happening here?
