Local GP only aplying to administrator

Hi

Iam setting up a SUS server on my network and im setting
up my clients with a local GP. I am in a windows 2000
domain and all clients are windows2000. The changes i mahe
in the GP will only aply to the administrator and not to a
normal user. When i am logged in as the normal user and use
the runas command to edit the policy it will show the
changes i made in the GP but they dont want to apply to
the normal user. Any idea why the GP setting for the
windows updates wont apply to a normal user?

Hi have tried it and for some reason it doesnt work. The GP
applies to the admin user but not a normal user.Download
wuau.adm and apply it with regedit.msc to administrative
templates.Chuse windows update and make the changes to
configure automatic updates to auto download and schedule
the install ( option 4 ).Now logoff and login with a
normal user and go to desktop -> automatic updates and u
will see that download the updates automaticly and notify
me is selected insted of automaticly download the updates
and install them on schedule. When u login as admin u will
see that automaticly download the updates and install them
on schedule is selected and this is correct. Why not with
a normal user?

Have you checked the permissions of the GP folder. If users can not see the
folder GP can not be applied. Also users must have read permission on each
GP that applies to them. There is also the possiblity that GP is detecting a
slow link and not applying the policies on boot. Some nics will reset Cisco
switch ports which makes this happen. If you have Cisco equipment make sure
portfast is on. Also GPresult is useful tool to see what GP's are being
applied to accounts

It happens with any user except the administrator.Happens
on all client pc's. I have reinstalled w2k on a pc and it
still happens. I give the non admin user admin rights and
it works fine. Computer Config -> Admin Templates->Windows
comp -> Windows update ( after applying wuau.adm )-> Conf
automatic update -> Auto download and schedule that policy
change doesnt want to take effect on normal users only
users with admin rights or users with local admin
rights. How can i get a user with non admin rights to get
the policy to apply?

The users have rea/execute + read access on the gpolicy
folder. It cant be the switches because it also happens on
a standalone pc thats not connected to the network.Happens
to the local user where the windows update setting dont
want to apply but it applies to the local admin user.
