I just installed Windows XP Pro with all the updates
etc., only to find that after all this my local drive
shows up as: G:/ instead of C:/
I didn't map any drives, this machine has 3, one
master ide primary which should have been C:/ or
at least I thought and two others with linux
installed which don't even show up under My Computer.
What might I have done wrong here ?

Any help with this much appreciated,

Thanks,

Do you have a Zip drive, or similar removable device (possibly USB)
connected? If these are connected at the time of Setup they seem to get
in the way of enumeration. ONce done, either you live with the result
(there is nothing sacrosanct about the letter C) or start over, deleting
the current partition and then rebooting, to install with such devices
physically disconnected for the duration.

And it is possible that the two linux drives might have done it if they
are on some separate plug in card, so the hardware got seen (through its
add-on BIOS) first
