Local cub file in 2000/XP

Hi,

I created a local cub file that appears to only be
accessible via Excel XP through my co-workers. Users who
attempt to open it on Excel 2000 don't get anywhere. All
attempts have been made here at work.

I can not find an option when selecting "Offline OLAP" in
Excel XP to make a cub file visible in previous versions
of Excel. The wizard pretty much just creates the file
and that's it.

I downloaded the ptssetup.zip file from MS website and
when the htm file is loaded on the machines running Excel
2000, it's states that Pivot Table Services is installed.

Is it possible to view a local cub file created in XP in
2000? If so, what am I doing wrong, or what do I need to
do?

Thanks.

Hi Jason,

There are so many wizards etc that this is confusing, but this worked Ok for
me:

I used Get External data in Excel XP to create a query and a cube file.
Then I used Excel 2000 pivot table wizard get external data to find the
query file and create the pivot table.

regards
Charles

Charles,

I was able to use the below information in a way that
made it work.

In Excel 2000, I went to Pivot Table and Chart selected
External Data Source, then selected OLAP Cubes. From
there I just choose Cube file as opposed to Analysis
Services. Low and behold it worked. However, I'm not so
sure that I like the interface with 2000 as opposed to
XP. The main difference is the option to select multiple
items. Interesting that with XP one can browse right to
the cub file and open it, with 2000 we're forced to do
the above. Hey, at least this may force mgmt to do an
upgrade.

Thanks for leading me in the right direction.
