Several weeks ago, a domain user working at home clicked
on a pop up message asking if she wanted to see something
cool. Since that time, the local administrator appears
locked out (local policy prevents from logging on
interactively) and the domain user/domain admins cannot
log on. Is there any workaround short of reinstalling XP
Pro?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Create an Organizational Unit for that computer. Then create a new GPO for
it. In that GPO configure the user rights assignment for logon locally to be
admininstrators and users. Configure the deny logon locally to be the guest
account. Move the locked out computer to that OU. Run secedit /refreshpolicy
machine_policy /enforce on the domain controller and then a few minutes
later reboot the problem computer. Assuming you can logon, check the Local
Security Policy on it for those user rights assignements and reverse changes
that are causing the lockout. --- Steve

to configure deny logon locally as I suggest also.
