Loc and LOF functions

The code snippet below fails at the "While" line.
Problem seems to be that "channel" is the wrong type of
variable for Loc and LOF.
Help!!

Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.filesystemobject")
fname = Workbooks("macros.xls").Path
& "\cltfiles\modlist.lst"
Set channel = fso.opentextfile(fname, 1)
While Loc(channel) < LOF(channel)
Call MsgBox(channel.ReadLine)
Wend
channel.Close
